Make teeth look and feel natural again.

Dental fillings are the most common procedure performed in our office. They repair and restore the tooth and help prevent painful decay or infection that would require more serious work. We use composite resin fillings that are colour matched to your tooth. Unlike amalgam (metal fillings), tooth-coloured composite resin bonds really well with the tooth and is capable of filling much smaller spaces which means less drilling!

Restore the Natural Look and Feel of Your Teeth.

One of the most commonly performed procedures in our office is dental fillings. They serve to repair and restore damaged teeth while also preventing painful decay or infection that may require more extensive procedures. At our office, we use composite resin fillings that are colour-matched to your natural tooth. Unlike metal fillings, tooth-coloured composite resin has excellent bonding properties with the tooth, enabling it to fill even the tiniest spaces with less drilling required.

How to get a cavity filled?

Subtle Numbing

Prior to commencing the procedure, we will take the necessary time to carefully numb your gums. Although some people may feel anxious about this step, it is important to note that freezing will effectively numb your teeth and the surrounding area, ensuring minimal discomfort during the procedure.

Filling the Tooth

Once we have confirmed that you are comfortably numb, we will proceed to carefully clean and prepare your affected tooth. An adhesive gel will then be applied to the tooth, over which a white composite resin filling material will be molded and sculpted to match your unique contours or bite.

Hardening the composite material

Following the molding and sculpting of the composite resin material to fill or bond your tooth, a special LED light is used to quickly cure and harden the material. The finished tooth is then carefully examined by the dentist, who will make any necessary finishing touches before providing it with a final polish.

The Cost of a filling in Drayton

Fillings are considered a routine and effective way to prevent dental problems, and as a result, many insurance companies offer significant coverage for them. With a typical insurance plan, the cost of fillings could range anywhere from $0 to $100+. If you do not have dental insurance, the cost of fillings can range from $120 to $300 or more, especially if you need multiple fillings at once.

To determine the actual cost of your treatment, we consider several factors, including your current oral health, the number of fillings you need, the location of the cavity in your mouth, whether any new X-rays are required, the amount of time required by our dental team to meet your specific needs, and the equipment and supplies needed to serve all your needs.

Promptly filling cavities is highly important to us because fillings are effective at preventing more invasive treatments, serious dental pain, and keeping you happy and healthy.

to schedule an initial consultation & exam.

Your consultation will include an examination of everything from your teeth, gums and soft tissues to the shape and condition of your bite. Generally, we want to see how your whole mouth looks and functions. Before we plan your treatment we want to know everything about the health and aesthetic of your smile, and, most importantly, what you want to achieve so we can help you get there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Assuming that you maintain a regular daily oral hygiene routine of brushing and flossing, and attend scheduled cleanings and checkups, your fillings should remain intact for more than ten years.

In the past, fillings were typically made of a dental alloy known as “dental amalgam” and were commonly referred to as “silver” or “mercury” fillings. While the safety of amalgam fillings remains a topic of debate, scientific studies conducted by the Canadian Dental Association have yet to confirm that dental amalgam is causing any illnesses in the general population. Therefore, if you currently have silver fillings, there is no need to be alarmed!

While there are several over-the-counter products available that can temporarily fill a cavity or minor tooth damage until you can visit a dentist, they are not a permanent solution and cannot replace a professional filling. It is important to note that a cavity represents permanent tooth damage that requires cleaning, preparation, and filling by a dental professional. Failing to address dental decay can pose severe risks, including tooth loss and abscess formation. Therefore, it is essential to seek professional dental treatment as soon as possible.

In the event that you are experiencing severe pain that is preventing you from eating or sleeping, it is considered a dental emergency, and we urge you to contact us immediately. We can offer advice over the phone and schedule an appointment for you as soon as possible. To provide temporary relief for a toothache, you can apply a cold compress to your face over the affected area. Pain relievers such as acetaminophen (e.g. Tylenol) or ibuprofen (e.g. Advil) may also help alleviate the pain. It is important to always follow the advice of your doctor and carefully read the instructions on the medication bottle. Additionally, make a note of the medication you take, how much, and when you took it, so you can inform us when you come in for your appointment.
